Oscarsborg Fortress is situated on the two Kaholmen Islands in the Oslofjord close to Drøbak, approximately 40 kilometres from Oslo. The fortress was constructed between 1830 and 1853 and acquired its name after a visit by King Oscar I in 1855. A new torpedo battery was constructed in 1901. On 9 April 1940, when the fortress finally came under attack, the German warship Blücher was sunk by shots fired from it.
The museum includes a living exhibition showing how the Blücher was fired on and sunk.
